Material Productivity Engineer
1. Location
This position is located in Central PA. Significant travel (both domestic and some international) will be required to be successful in this position.
2. Purpose of Position
The Material Productivity Engineer leads the efforts in driving cost reductions from the supply base through design. This position works with Production and R&D Engineers to develop or improve materials, parts and components. This position involves direct contact with outside suppliers, Purchasing, Supplier Quality, Sales, Customer Service, Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Marketing, and Operation staffs to meet/exceed current and projected customer requirements.
3. Key Responsibilities
• Manage multiple projects that are focused on cost reduction initiatives.
• From a global perspective, understands component engineering and procurement industry trends and issues on a real time basis, in order to develop and implement an effective procurement and component strategies.
• Apply cost reduction principles where applicable (VA/VE, Six Sigma, Lean) and lead to completion from Engineering perspective.
• Participate in both short and long term strategy discussions concerning applicable commodities. Make appropriate recommendations based on general market conditions considering procurement objectives.
• Direct contact with outside suppliers, customer service, and operations staffs to meet/exceed current and projected customer requirements.
• Frequently participate in, and lead continuous improvement workshops (kaizens) with team members to improve quality, delivery, productivity and cost.
• Achieve department performance goals (ie. PPV, LCR sourcing, OTD, and successful new product development launches (cost, timing, inventory, etc)).
• Help to develop new sources for existing materials where doing so will improve overall quality, on time delivery, inventory reduction, and PPV goals.
• Initiates, reviews, and approves ECO’s.
• Maintenance of component specifications and requirements.
• Develops and manages component qualification.
4. Relationships
• Reports to Director of Materials
• Works directly with Manufacturing Engineers, Buyers, Area Supervisors, Materials Planning Personnel, Design Engineers, Cell Operators, and Members of Management.

• PPV (purchase price variance/cost reduction)
• LCR sourcing
• Supplier performance
• Project OTD
6. Background and Skills
• BS in Engineering and minimum of 5-10 years of Engineering Experience.
• Prior experience working as an Engineer in a Purchasing environment preferred
• Experience working with multiple commodities (sheet metal, casting, machined parts, plastic, electronics, etc.)
• Working knowledge of component/material designing using 2D/3D/Solid software
• Familiarity with working with various compliance bodies such as UL, Baseefa, etc.
• Ability to work without close supervision
• Proficient at the use of MS office applications including Word, Excel, and Access
• Understanding of Lean Manufacturing concepts and methods
